Curtains Fall as Beloved Kenyan Comedienne Tabitha Gatwiri is Finally Laid to Rest

  • As the song ‘Kwake Yesu Nasimama’ echoed through the air, the last shovel of earth was poured over Tabitha Gatwiri’s resting place
  • The sight of her casket being lowered was too much for many to bear, and friends and family collapsed into each other’s arms, overwhelmed by the magnitude of the loss
  • Her grieving mother, after being ushered by the pastor to throw a mould of soil onto the grave, was seen making a prayer as grief continued to reign

The planting of flowers, following a session of filling the grave with soil, marked the final rites that sealed the closing of the book of life for the beloved Kenyan comedienne, Tabitha Gatwiri.

Her burial took place in a remote village in Meru County, exactly two weeks after her untimely death at the KU Hospital.

The event was deeply emotional, with attendees breaking down in tears at various moments, while others, unable to contain their grief, wailed loudly.

Her family, particularly her mother, were the most affected.

Though she had maintained her composure throughout the ceremony, she was visibly shaken when her daughter’s white casket was lowered into the grave.

Celebrities, including Kelvin Kinuthia, Naomi Kuria, Shiphira, and MCA Tricky, attended the ceremony in large numbers, offering moving tributes and reminiscing about the beautiful memories they shared with Tabitha.

MCA Tricky, on behalf of the celebrity community, read a heartfelt tribute during the somber occasion.

The day had started off slowly, amid rain showers at the Calm Breeze Funeral Home in Meru, where Tabitha’s body had been moved from the KU Hospital morgue.

Her white casket was lowered gently using a crane, and mourners crowded around for one final glimpse.

As the casket was set into the ground, the pastor led a ritual in which family members first placed a mound of soil on the casket.

A video that has surfaced on TikTok captures the emotional moment, with voices wailing in the background as many mourners cried out in unison.

Her grave was then filled with soil, and the final chapter was closed with the planting of a beautifully emblazoned cross, marking the dates when her book of life opened and when it tragically closed.
