  • Despite these gaffes, many fans defend him, while others wondered whether he had fired an English teacher he had hired

Tanzanian Bongo Flava star Diamond Platnumz is under fire for his English language skills following a conversation with American singer Jason Derulo.

The exchange, which took place recently, has sparked widespread discussion online.

During their conversation, Derulo asked Diamond, “When did you get in town?” to which Diamond, with a serious expression, replied, “Second right? Second in the morning.” This response quickly became a topic of debate among fans and critics alike.

This isn’t the first time Diamond’s English proficiency has been called into question. In 2022, while answering a question about his age on the show “Young, Famous and African,” Diamond said, “I’m 31st,” causing a flurry of memes and jokes on social media.

Despite the ridicule, some fans defended him, pointing out that English is not his first language and encouraging him to speak in Kiswahili.

Diamond’s struggles with English have been noted in the past as well.

In 2023, he was criticized for pronouncing the word ‘song’ as ‘sing’ while explaining to his children why he was leaving early, saying, “I am going to do another sing.”

One of the more memorable instances was in 2018, when a video showed Diamond unable to answer a question posed by his daughter, Latiffa, in English.

During their conversation, Latiffa asked about the hair on his chest, to which Diamond responded, “This is the hair, I do not know how to explain it in English my friend, my English is not good.”
