During the funeral of Gerald Mwangi, known as Makanga Bae, a distressed family member left mourners flabbergasted after revealing that the mother was on the verge of committing suicide amid allegations of mismanaged funds intended for his son’s farewell.
The service, held on October 23, 2024, quickly devolved into an emotional showdown as family members voiced their frustrations.
Mwangi, who passed away on October 10 from injuries sustained in a fatal road accident, was remembered fondly by his community.

A family member stood up, expressing their disappointment: “Watu hawa wote wametukosea kama family. Hatukutaka kuzika ndugu yetu vile munamuona yuko hapo.”
The family’s vision of a dignified send-off was shattered as accusations flew regarding the mishandling of donations from friends and supporters.
Particular blame fell on key organizer Muturi, who was accused of failing to deliver promised support. “Muturi alisema alinunua maji na alinunua chakula, siku ya Leo hapa hakuna maji, hakuna chakula,” a family member lamented, highlighting the deepening frustration.

As the drama unfolded, it was revealed that Mwangi’s mother had been pushed to the brink by the turmoil, considering suicide due to the emotional strain.
“Mamake Gerald alikuwa anataka kujiua,” one family member tearfully shared, calling for dignity and respect during this painful time.
While some attendees rallied behind the family, others defended Muturi, suggesting that the situation was more complex than it appeared.
