Comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi has arrested by police officers during anti-tax protests outside the Bunge Towers in Nairobi.
The protests were in opposition to the contentious Finance Bill 2024.
In widely circulated videos, Omondi can be seen sitting atop a horse, chanting anti-tax slogans towards the officers stationed nearby.

However, the demonstration was abruptly interrupted when police officers moved in to disperse the protestors.
The officers rushed towards Omondi, dislodged him from the horse, and then whipped him several times before detaining him.

Omondi was accompanied by fellow protesters, who quickly fled the scene, leaving him crawling on the road near parliament as the officers subdued him.
This incident comes just two weeks after Omondi’s previous arrest for demonstrating against the same proposed tax measures at the same location.

Despite being handcuffed, Omondi continued to shout, attempting to rally the remaining protestors to support him.
The protestors, many of whom were women dressed in sackcloth, were seen holding large placards demanding the intervention of Members of Parliament regarding the controversial bill.
They accused the legislators of betrayal and expressed fears that the bill would be passed into law.
