  • Three grenades, a firearm, ammunition, and military gear were recovered after a man impersonating a KDF Captain was arrested at a Nairobi roadblock
  •  Koffi Bill Atinda, who posed as a KDF officer to avoid an alcoblow test, was found with fake currency and various illegal items
  • Further investigations revealed a network involving multiple suspects and led to the discovery of more weapons and counterfeit documents

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has recovered a significant cache of weaponry and military gear following the arrest of a man posing as a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Captain.

The operation began when Koffi Bill Atinda, alias Don, attempted to evade an alcoblow test at Museum Hill in Nairobi.

Atinda was stopped at a roadblock on May 15 and refused to comply with traffic officers’ requests, instead stepping out of his vehicle and falsely identifying himself as a KDF Captain.

His attempt to use a KDF sticker on his black Toyota Prado TX (Reg No. KDL 100G) to evade the test backfired when he failed to produce the necessary identification.

A serving military captain he called for support distanced himself, and a check with the Department of Defense (DoD) confirmed Atinda was not a KDF officer. Consequently, Atinda was arrested and charged with traffic offenses.

Following his release on traffic charges, anti-robbery police intercepted Atinda and his driver, Kennedy Otieno Omwanda, at Nairobi Area Traffic Headquarters as they attempted to retrieve the impounded vehicle.

This encounter led to the discovery of 15 counterfeit USD notes, a police communication device, a vehicle siren, expired Ugandan car insurance, multiple SIM card holders, and company stamps in Atinda’s car.

Subsequent searches at Atinda’s residence in Ngong unearthed military camouflage fatigues and various company documents.

His social media accounts contained images of him brandishing firearms, which are still being sought by authorities.

Interrogation of Omwanda revealed a third suspect, Kennedy Otieno Odhiambo.

A raid on Odhiambo’s residence at Jimly Apartment in Jamhuri Estate uncovered three hand grenades, a Sauer P229 pistol, 12 rounds of ammunition, and a firearm certificate pending verification.

Odhiambo claimed the grenades were given to him for safekeeping by a Kenya Prisons officer based at Ruiru Prison Headquarters, a connection currently under investigation.

The operation continues as DCI seeks to recover a long-barreled rifle reportedly seen with Atinda and to apprehend additional members of the suspected criminal network.
