  • Renowned Jamaican dancehall artist Konshens has joined Kenyans in rejecting the Finance Bill, sharing his support online and calling for the government to listen to the people’s demands
  • His post, featuring the Kenyan flag and a raised arm emoji, garnered admiration from Kenyans, who praised him for standing with them during their struggle against the oppressive bill
  • This solidarity from Konshens comes amid intense social media activism and widespread protests led by Kenyans against the controversial bill

Renowned Jamaican dancehall artist Konshens has voiced his support for Kenyans opposing the Finance Bill, following massive online backlash that brought the internet to a standstill.

The successful singer emphasized that when the Kenyan people speak, the government should listen.

He shared a post featuring the Kenyan flag and a raised fist emoji to show his full support for the Kenyans rejecting the oppressive bill.

Konshens also used the hashtag #RejectFinanceBill2024, which left Kenyans in awe of his solidarity during their darkest and most challenging times.

The “Bruk Off Yuh Back” hitmaker’s views came after days of Kenyan netizens dedicating all social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and mainly X (formerly Twitter), to discussing the Finance Bill in hopes of pressuring the government.

Konshens has previously expressed his admiration for Kenya and its people and has performed in the country on multiple occasions, drawing large crowds of supportive fans.

His recent remarks highlight the impact of the online protests and fuel the momentum for a planned seven-day demonstration against the bill.

Kenyans reacted to his post, noting the global reach of their protest, while some criticized KRG for supporting the bill when Konshens stood with them.

Others lamented that the government would have ignored the people’s will if the bill passed, and some even leaked politicians’ phone numbers for further trolling.

Here are some of the comments:

Ababu Namwamba Booed at Fred Omondi’s Last Laugh Show

In a related incident, Sports and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba faced significant backlash and was cut short from speaking at the Last Laugh show held in honor of comedian Fred Omondi.

Despite not being among the MPs voting on the Finance Bill, his previous remarks supporting President Ruto led to intense booing from the attendees.

A video shows the CS, dressed in full black, being booed from the moment he stood up, unable to deliver his speech as the booing intensified with each statement.

Despite contributing Kshs 300,000 to Omondi’s family, Kenyans refused to applaud him, even when the MC asked them to do so, and continued their harsh booing.

This incident reflects a growing trend across the country, as Kenyans urge each other to similarly express their dissatisfaction with MPs who voted in favor of the Finance Bill.
