  • Mike Sonko sparked controversy at the funeral of Lucy Wambui, where he suggested that President William Ruto, like everyone else, would eventually face death
  • Sonko’s remarks, which included references to past presidents Moi and Kenyatta, led to mixed reactions from mourners and online viewers
  • His comments came during a service for Wambui, 47, who died following complications from botched cosmetic surgery, leading Sonko to later protest against the clinic responsible

Mike Sonko was among the mourners at the funeral of Lucy Wambui, wife of millionaire Francis Ng’ang’a. Wambui tragically passed away following complications from a cosmetic surgery at a Nairobi clinic.

During the funeral service, Sonko took the podium to offer comfort to the grieving family. He spoke about life’s fleeting nature, emphasizing that everyone eventually faces death.

However, his choice of examples sparked a storm of mixed reactions from mourners and those watching online.

What Did Sonko Say?

In an attempt to lighten the somber mood, the former Nairobi governor referenced prominent Kenyan leaders who have passed, suggesting that death is inevitable for everyone.

Sonko mentioned former presidents Moi and Kenyatta before controversially implying that President William Ruto would also die, as no one can escape mortality.

The outspoken leader seemed to align himself with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was recently removed from office in a contentious move by Ruto’s allies.

Sonko’s remarks resonated with locals from Gachagua’s hometown, drawing cheers from mourners. However, to balance his statement, Sonko clarified that even Gachagua, like everyone else, would one day meet his end.

Which Funeral Was Sonko Attending?

Sonko was part of an A-list lineup of leaders at the funeral for Lucy Wambui, a Nairobi entrepreneur who died under mysterious circumstances after a cosmetic procedure at Body By Design clinic.

According to her husband, Francis Ng’ang’a, the clinic discharged Wambui when her recovery took a troubling turn. Following this, the clinic allegedly closed its doors.

Ng’ang’a recounted his wife’s suffering, saying she endured excruciating pain, bizarre symptoms like her intestines bursting, and an overwhelming odor due to complications.

Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries.

Days after Wambui’s passing, Sonko led a group of youth in a protest at the clinic, resulting in its permanent closure, with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) issuing a closure notice.
