  • Days after performing in Nairobi, Nigerian artist Portable was arrested following a dramatic escape attempt, where he skillfully jumped a gate to evade police
  •  The arrest stems from an unpaid balance on a KSh 2.3 million G-Wagon, which Portable had partially paid for but then ceased communication
  • Despite his brief getaway, police apprehended him on May 14, and he is currently in custody

Days after Nigerian singer Portable performed at Kitchenette Bistro in Nairobi, the singer has been thrust into the spotlight for a different reason—his dramatic evasion of police capture.

Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, stunned social media users with a viral video showing him skillfully flipping over a gate in a bid to evade arrest.

The incident occurred when officers arrived to apprehend him over an alleged unpaid debt for a luxury vehicle.

The Lagos State Police Command was acting on a petition filed by a car dealer who claimed that Portable had failed to pay the balance for a G-Wagon valued at KSh 2.33 million.

According to reports, Portable made a down payment and took possession of the vehicle, promising to settle the remaining amount later.

However, communication ceased, and the payments were never completed.

When confronted, Portable allegedly cited mechanical issues with the car but refused to return it or pay the balance.

Despite his initial escape, Portable’s luck ran out on May 14 when the police managed to apprehend him.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the arrest, noting that the singer is now in custody.

Portable, who shot to fame with his hit single “Zazoo Zehh,” is no stranger to controversy.

His rise in the music industry has been marked by both his unique style and energetic performances, as well as occasional run-ins with the law.

Nonetheless, his talent and resilience have earned him a growing fan base both in Nigeria and internationally.
