Stolen Scorpion Firearm Recovered Near Githurai Police Post

The recovered firearm had been stolen from Police Constable Mercy Mamboleo during a robbery in February.

  • An abandoned Scorpion firearm, previously stolen from an officer, was discovered near Githurai Police Post early Saturday morning
  •  The weapon, loaded with 23 rounds, was found by PC Jane Wanjiru Kamau and promptly led to a thorough police investigation
  • The firearm has been taken for ballistic analysis as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of its abandonment

An abandoned firearm was discovered near the Githurai Police Post early Saturday morning, leading to an immediate police response and investigation.

The firearm was identified as a Scorpion model, serial number B285784, loaded with 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The incident was reported by Police Constable Jane Wanjiru Kamau, who found the weapon upon finishing her shift.

At approximately 06:30hrs, while heading to the Githurai Police Post, PC Kamau noticed the abandoned firearm near the perimeter wall by the gate, where black water pipes were stored.

The firearm was identified as a Scorpion model, serial number B285784, loaded with 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Senior police officials, including the Deputy Sub-County Police Commander (D/scpc) Kasarani, Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer (sccio) Kasarani, Officer Commanding Station (ocs) Kasarani, Officer Commanding Police Post (ocpp) Githurai, and Crime Scene Investigation (csi) Kasarani personnel, promptly arrived at the scene.

Upon inspection, it was confirmed that the recovered firearm had been stolen from Police Constable Mercy Mamboleo during a robbery in February, recorded under OB.46/16/02/2024 at 23:30hrs in the Kiwanjani area.

The scene was processed, and the firearm was taken by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kasarani for further ballistic analysis.

The case remains under investigation as police continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the weapon.
